Can I say a few words?
I was considering a Savage for my wife. We prefer to spend more time riding than repairing our bikes. After reading this forum for 6 months, I cannot emphasize enough how glad I am we -didn't- buy a Savage and instead found an outstanding Rebel 450. From carb modifications, belt problems, electrical problems, vibration problems and on and on, I can tell you how much I've worked on my wifes Rebel since April: Changed the oil twice, set tire pressures, lubed the chain. That's it, folks. That's the way it's supposed to be. While I can't say the Savage is a "lemon" for sure, you people sure seem to talk an awful lot about what it takes to get them roadworthy on a regular basis. And comments like "malicious monitoring," meant to discount a legitimate question, only tell me that there are a few of you that will not look at the bottom line candidly, but will rather defend your position with emotion rather than fact.

Bottom line: I'm looking for a newer bike myself (my 'beater' bike is getting pretty bad). I'd consider an Intruder or Shadow, but -not- a Savage. A 94x94 mm single beating below my balls isn't my idea of something I want to ride to the Americade next year.

-Don
